Jan Aberg - Glass Based Mosaic Art

Welcome
Hello. I 'm an Artist living in Suwanee Ga with my wife Donna and our Lhasa Apso Leo. I have  always done some type of artwork, whether it be drawing, sculpture or painting for quite a few years after I received my art degree from UWF. About twelve years  ago I became interested in glass. I took some courses in stained glass and fused glass and created some work using conventional glass techniques.  To me, using those techniques seemed to be somewhat restrictive, so I gravitated to a mosaic glass on glass technique that allows me  more freedom of form. I create translucent glass on glass panels that are meant to be illuminated from behind and solid panels that are meant to be hung on a wall or displayed on a stand. These panel constructions are not just limited to glass. On some panels, I also add a variety of other materials that I think might fit well into the design. This might include glass that I have fused, dichroic glass, shells, fossils, minerals, tumbled glass, ball bearings, chains, inks, tempered glass, polymer clay, gravel etc. I'm all about exploring new techniques and utilizing a wide variety of materials to synthesize interesting imagery.

I also do a fair amount of fusing work to create glass jewelry. Most of my fusing work involves working with dichroic glass and various base glasses such as Bullseye. I like to combine different types of glass to achieve unusual effects. I then fuse them at high temperatures (1500 deg). Afterwards I shape the glass using cutting tools and a grinder to create the final object. I then do a fire polishing in the kiln to give the piece a finished look.

This is an informational website set up to give a sampling of the variety and scope of my work. I display and sell my panels and jewelry at various art festival venues during the year. I welcome all inquiries about my work through the website. My work is best experienced in person however. So I hope you can see it at the shows.
